Shockwave Therapy (PulseVet)
Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive drug-free treatment that is proven to relieve pain, promote healing, and increase mobility. This method is still relatively new for companion animals and has been used for equine therapy since 1999. New Albany Animal Clinic is pleased to offer this advanced technology for our patients in New Albany, Pontotoc, Blue Mountain, Ripley, and other nearby communities.
The process involves high-energy sound waves that travel through the soft tissue to the affected area, where it reduces inflammation, stimulates healing, and relieves pain. This tool can be especially effective for pain relief, osteoarthritis, hip or elbow dysplasia, cubathrosis, coxarthrosis, and tendon or ligament injuries.
Prior to the procedure, each pet is sedated for the duration of the procedure. The treatment area is shaved to prevent the fur from disrupting the sound waves, and a conductive gel is applied. The shock-wave system has a probe similar to an ultrasound and is placed on the affected area. The procedure typically lasts 15-20 minutes and can typically be conducted while you wait in our hospital waiting area.
